Angers
Angers is a cosmopolitan town. Its two
universities attract students from all over the world, and just a walk
around the town centre will give you a sense of its wealth and style.
The medieval castle dominates the Angers, with its imposing position
overlooking the River Cher.
Naturally Angers is the principal town of the
Anjou, an area well known for its wine growing. Bourgueil, Chinon,
Champigny, and the names of many other famous places associated with
wine are very very near, and a visit to a vineyard or cellar is a must
for any group staying in Angers. Other possibilities abound ; the Loire
castles, Chambord, Saumur, Chenonceaux, to name but three,
are well worth a visit. And then there are the
less known, but equally interesting castles such as Saché, where Honoré
de Balzac lived, or Le Clos Lucé, home of Leonardo Da Vinci during his
exile in France.
The Futuroscope in Poitiers is probably the most
popular visit for groups staying in Angers. Paris too is very
accessible, and can easily be fitted into a day trip. If you prefer the
coast, La Baule, with what is reputed to be the finest beach in Europe,
Le Croisic and the walled town of Guérande can provide another
interesting excursion
