Caen
This part of France
has close associations with Britain. William the Conqueror, Duke of
Normandy, born in Falaise just down the road from Caen, set off from
this area to conquer Britain in 1066. You can visit the charming little
town of Bayeux and see the magnificent tapestry describing the Norman
Conquest.
Nearer to our own time, the allied
Normandy landings started here in 1944, and no better place is situated
for visits to the Normandy beaches and the Caen Mémorial Museum to
Peace.
Or you might want to spend a day visiting
the many attractions in Caen ; the Musée des Beaux Arts, the Musée de la
Poste, or the Musée de la Nature situated inside the Abbaye aux Hommes.
Whatever your choice, you can be sure of giving your pupils an
interesting and enriching programme.
